If it is a nurse, under the supervision of the endoscopist, you'll get Versed (so you'll forget) and an opiate, like fentanyl or meperidine. (Some places have nurses pushing propofol, but that's just plain dangerous.) You'll be awake, but probably won't remember much. If you have an anesthesiologist or CRNA, we can give you propofol, with or without a little Versed. You're totally asleep for the procedure, but wake up quickly. It depends on who is sedating you.

Currently there are a few insurance companies that are debating whether the anaesthesia will be supported, although I think it's not clear at present whether the repeal of the financial support will be finalized.
