Colonoscopy preparation – how does that stuff clean you out so much???

During my colonoscopy preparation, I did the fasting and took the laxatives no problem, but drinking that 2 gallon mixture was horrible. How does all that liquid that you drink end up coming out through your colon and not just making you urinate, like when you drink a regular glass of water???

Living better through chemistry – it stimulates the epithelial cells of your colon to secrete more water.

I’ve had to do that, too! It’s soooooo horrible! I was in the hospital at the time and ended up pouring the last gallon down the commode — I figured it was going to end up in there, anyway! My rear was so raw from the “escaping liquids” that the nurse on duty went to the nursery and got me some Desitin! She was a sweetheart.

It’s the chemicals in it that act to make what is in the large intestine come out. It is a super duty laxative, and the water just aids to flush every thing out. I know, I have been through it as well. To any that might be going through this as well, don’t try to mix the flavor packs in cold water, use warm or hot water to dissolve the flavoring, then mix it with the mixture you have to drink. Personally, I think some of the chemicals might be similar to what is used in anti-freeze. That, however, is personal opinion.

My sympathies. A lot of that liquid does get urinated out but most liquid gets taken out of the digestive tract via the colon. There is just so much that the colon can handle and the rest acts like an enema delivered from the opposite end. I hope that your results were negative.

Incidentally, my proctoquack loaded me with liquid in the form of water. The laxatives came in tablet form.

hey, whatever u eat or drink goes to the GastroIntestinal Tract first.. from the intestines, water is absorbed and is sent to the kidneys for the filtration via the blood. and the remaining stuff i.e. in ur case the laxatives, go the large intestines cleaning it thouroughly so that it does not obscure the findings of the procedure…
