I entered this video in the 2009 SEVAs (Student Educational Video Awards). I won the SEVA for the 9-12 grade documentary category. It is about Celiac Disease, which I was diagnosed with about three years ago. I hope you like it!

i have it, im 14 and i wasnt born with it, i got it when i was 6, mostly girls get this disease.

  4. generatrix999 Says:

What’s sick is, a lot of people have the disease in a milder form, I mean a lot.

They say 1 in 133, its probably more like 1 in 20.

Try going gluten free for a month, see what happens.

  5. StrixNoctis Says:

I think the reason some people say that people with Celiac Disease are born with it is because they’re talking about the gene that’s associated with Celiac Disease. The symptoms become more apparent sooner with some people and later with others. Maybe it’s relative to the damage done to the small intestine and the malabsorption caused by it.

i have celiac disease, and i wasnt born with it. im only 13 and i was diagnosed at 11. its so hard, and i hate having it. my mom has it too

  7. filmfanatic1414 Says:

If you have Celiac, you are born with it, you just might not show symptoms since birth. I didn’t show symptoms until I was twelve, and it is possible that something triggered the disease, but I had it all along, it just hadn’t been effecting me.

Great video, and despookyhhr It is UNDER DIAGNOSED which is why there aren’t that many people in the US who for sure have it. The numbers aren’t over estimated, the people who have it just don’t know.

  9. despookyhhr Says:

Modified food starch is corn. Wheat has to be declared and rye is a lousy modifier. Envelope and stamp glue is made from corn and tapioca starch..therefore safe.
To date..there are only 40,000 to 60,000 diagnosed celiacs in the USA. I think the numbers have been overestimated.(1 in 133)

  10. 1029blue Says:

The thing about modified food starch confused me. Is there no law that requires manufacturers to label ANY wheat that a product contains? That’s what it’s like in Germany. I thought that the US had the same regulations. Have I been glutening myself for years without knowing it? :(

@Filmfantic ~ Good job on you video, your research was well done.

@SpatialVortex, actually you are quite incorrect, research has show that people are born w/Celiac, it only manifests after ingesting gluten.

@Zoey8572 your half right and half wrong. You would look smarter if you had spelled things correctly too. Yes, endiosocpy are tested both ways. Celiac is a gluten intolerence, when you eat items w/gluten it causes damage to villis. When the damage accures is what cause malnutrition.

  12. filmfanatic1414 Says:

Actually, I do have celiac, and they did go down my throat to see if I had it. A lot of research went into making this video.

  13. zoey8572 Says:

@ Spital vortex dont talk u got it wrong tooo lett people who have celiac like mee make yhese videos okkk gawd this upsetss me it isent caused by eating gluten its caused by malnutrition

  14. zoey8572 Says:

Yeahh uhhh no people are not born born with it i have ciliac disese and you got more then just that wrong but you cant say that it is developed by a viral devitiencee in the small intestenss and those symptumms were wrongg and the tube goes up ur butt not down the throut its called a colonascapii and it is developed during childhood soo allll syptems are during childhood yeah thats not all i could go onn so gett your facts right next timee

  15. themightymightyone Says:

    A+++

  16. SpatialVortex Says:

How can you say people are BORN with it? No baby is BORN with Celiac, people DEVELOP it, when they eat Gluten.

Celiac does not cause villi to be damaged, it’s GLUTEN which does.

    Poorly made video. 1/5 stars.

  17. lovemyselfforever86 Says:

pissed off that i have this..i don’t want and endioscopy..

  18. CeliacReviews Says:

Hello everyone, I just created a website for people with celiac, the site is still under construction but the forums are up and running and I would love to build a nice community within those forums. I am working on building a database with all gluten-free food as well. Check it out at celiacreviews()com with () being the dot of course “.”
